El Rey offers consumers gourmet chocolate made from fairly traded cacao beans direct from small and large-scale growers in Venezuela, seeking to balance the inequities found in the conventional world trade by having established Aprocao, which is a democratically run cooperative managed by El Rey and which pays above-market prices for its cacao beans.

Manufacturing Process
El Rey have refined the term quality to a science.  We focus on so much more than just the making of the chocolate: selecting the beans, roasting, refining, tempering, molding and packaging. However, long before the cacao beans arrive the focus is on fermentation, drying, storage and transport. Each of these steps set the stage for the making of a premium product.

In small plantations of the coastal valleys, the plains and the foothills of the Andes, Venezuelan farmers have developed the art of cultivating the finest varieties of Criollo and Trinitario cacao for generations.

For centuries, experts have agreed on a basic reality: Venezuelan cacao is perhaps the most flavorful and aromatic in the world. Consequently, Chocolates El Rey uses only 100% Venezuelan cacao, fermented, dried in the sun and processed using the latest technology. From this marriage between art and science are born unique chocolates which redefine global standards of excellence.
